114th Birth Anniversary of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, Father of the Nation

On the occasion of the 114th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the Mauritius Museums Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Arts and Culture  organised the following activities for students of colleges at a national level :  
A Painting/Drawing Competition  for students of Lower Six and Upper Six classes under the theme - " SSR - Early age" ;
And a Poem Writing Competition for students of Form I to Form III classes under the theme - " SSR - A Leader who fought for justice and freedom ".
A Prize Giving ceremony was held at the SSR Memorial Centre for Culture, Plaine Verte on 18 September 2014 and the winners of the competitions received awards as follows:
Drawing/Painting competition-2014
1st Prize:    Deviendra LUKKOO, John Kennedy College, Beau Bassin.
2nd Prize:   Navishnee Nelini PERMALL, Dunputh Lallah SSS, Curepipe.
3rd Prize:    Navesh HAMRITTE, Sookdeo Bissoondoyal State College.
Poem Writing Competition-2014

1st Prize:   Aabid Shameem SHAMTAULLY, Royal College Port Louis..
2nd Prize:  Hitisha SOOKUR, Rajcoomar Gujadhur SSS, Central Flacq.
3rd Prize:   Rinishta GOOKOOL, Forest Side SSS (Girl), Forest Side.

Exhibition by Bamba Sourang 
Exhibition  " expo ARTEXTURES" by Artist Mr. Bamba Sourang at the Exhibition Gallery of Mauritius Museums Council, Mauritius Institute Building, Chaussée Port Louis.
Date: 20 June - 26 June 2014.
Mr. Bamba Sourang has maintained a strong interest with the island of Mauritius for more than 16 years and has shared his feelings through his personal art works  with the Mauritians.
The exhibition has been organised by the Prime Minister's Office in collaboration with the Ministry of Arts and Culture and the Mauritius Museums Council and inaugurated by  Hon. Mookhesswur Choonee, GOSK, Minister of Arts and Culture on 19th June 2014
In the context of the International Museum Day, the theme retained by the ICOM for year 2014 is “Museum collections make connection”.
 To mark the International Museum Day 2014, the Mauritius Museums Council  organized the following activities:
 1.      Opening of a ‘Nature Gallery’
The official opening of a new Gallery named as the “Nature Gallery” which is the third gallery of the Natural History Museum, Chaussée, Port Louis.  The Gallery has been inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Honourable Mookhesswur Choonee, in the presence of the Chairman of the Mauritius Museums Board on 29 May 2014.
The objective of this “Nature Gallery” is to inculcate the importance and the necessity to preserve nature among the visitors.  The Gallery depicts different worldwide minerals, fossils, endangered specimens in the ocean for example, the aquatic mammal, the Dugong, a beautiful exhibition on horns and antlers and a display on some birds and eggs in their habitats.

Salon du Livre

In the context of ‘Confluence’ event which showcased books through the “Salon du Livre” from 06 to 09 March 2014 at the Swami Vivekananda International Conference Centre, the Mauritius Museums Council participated by displaying panels on Robert Edward Hart and his personal effects, the Prime Minister who paid a visit to the stand of the Mauritius Museums Council in the presence of Mrs Segolin Royal, writer and politician, Hon. Mookhesswar Choonee, Minister of Arts and Culture, Chairman and  Senior officers of Mauritius museums Council.
The aim of the exhibition was to raise awareness on the literary work and the life achievement of Robert Edward Hart as a great author and poet and his immense contribution to the cultural landscaping of Mauritius.

The theme for " International Museum Day " for year 2013 was : "Museums ( Memory + creativity) = Social change".   In the context of the International Museums Day-2013, the following activities were held:
An Exhibition on "HORNS AND ANTLERS" was held at the MAURITIUS INSTITUTE BUILDING, Chausée Port Louis as from 22 May 2013 for a period of one month. 
A painting Exhibition on Historical Mahebourg at the National History Musuem, Mahebourg. A prize giving ceremony was also held on this occasion..
The Chineese Cultural Centre in collaboration with the Mauriitus Museums Council held an Exhibition on " Chineese Calligraphy" as from 18th  to 22th  October 2013 at the Exhibition Gallery of the Mauritius Museums Council, Chaussée Port Louis. The Exhibition was inaugurated by the Chairman, Mr Gorah Beebeejaun, CSK.
World Art Day 
On the occasion of "World Art Day" an Exhibition on Paintings was held at the Exhibition gallery, Mauritius Institute Building, Chaussée Port Louis as from 10th to 20th April 2013. Inauguration was carried out by Hon.Minister of Arts and Culture.
National Day Celebration
On the occasion of the 45th National Day Celebration the Mauritius Museums Council displayed large photo of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam on the fencing of Natural History Museum, Port Louis as fom 11th March 2013 to 19th March 2013.
Exhibition " Hommage to Marcel Cabon" at Swami Vivekananda C.Centre, Pailles fro 7 March to 10 March 2013 on the occasion of "Salon International du Livre, Confluence organised by Prime Minister's Office and inaugurated by Prime Minister.
PHOTOGRAPHS Exhibition on title "Our Earth,Our Dreams, Our Hopes " presented by Mr. Cadreebux and inaugurated by Hon. Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr M.Choonee on 29 January 2013. Exhibition was opened to public till 14 February 2013.

Exhibition of large panel on title "Hommage to Marcel Cabon" from 27 December 2012 to 22 January 2013 at the Exhibition gallery, Mauritius Institute Building, Chaussée Port Louis.

Photo Exhibition on theme " La traverser de Lukla au pied d'Everest, Nepal" from 19 - 24 November 2012 at the Exhibition gallery, Mauritius Institute Building, Chaussée Port Louis.
