Donation of shipwrecks objects by Mauritius Marine ...

Donations Objets d’Épaves février 2021   Plusieurs collections d’objets d’épave ont été données à Yann von Arnim par des plongeurs pour la plupart aujourd’hui décédés. Avec l’accord des héritiers ou des donateurs, ce dernier a proposé que des objets de ces collections soient remis au Musée National d’Histoire de Mahébourg. Comme les objets avaient été donnés en vrac, une étude a dû être réalisée par la Mauritius Marine Conservation Society pour les identifier, les nettoyer, les traiter et les cataloguer. Au final pour chaque épave un inventaire a été réalisé et les objets ont été rangés dans des boites selon leur type. Roving Exhibition

In view to motivate public to show interest  in cultural heritage and history of Mauritius, the Mauritius Museums Council in collaboration with Cap Tamarin Super U has put on display an exhibition entitled  "The Peopling of Mauritius" as from 13 July to 30 July 2021 at Cap Tamarin Super U. The Republic of Mauritius has been created by immigrants.  Its peopling has always been characterised by diversity.  European settlers from Holland, France and Britain, intent on building entrepôts and empires, introduced workers, companions, servants and slaves from far-flung possessions and trading routes to the Indies, resulting in the mosaic of ethnic groups which has remained one of the ha ...

National Day Celebration 2021

​National Day Celebration 2021 To mark the National Day Celebration 2021, the Mauritius Museums Council in collaboration with Flacq Coeur de Ville mounted an exibition entltled " The Peopling of Mauritius". The exibition is opened to the public from 4 March till 31 May 2021 at Super U, Flacq Coeur de Ville. International Museum Day - 2019

​In the context of International Museum Day, the Mauritius Museums council has organised an Exhibition on, "Le Naufrage du Saint-Géran et la Légende de Paul et Virginie" at the National History Museum, Mahebourg. International Museum Day - 2018

​In the context of International Museum Day, the Mauritius Museums Council has organised two painting competitions at national level among students of grade 12 in Mauritius and Rodrigues. The themes chosen were as follows: 1- Local Trees of Mauritius 2- Lame dan Lame pou enn Lil Moris Modern A Prize giving ceremony and an exhibition on Edward Pitot also was held at the National History Museum, Mahebourg on 18th May 2018. Natural History Museum is located on the ground floor of the Mauritius Institute Building, right in front of the Jardin de la Compagnie, in the heart of the City of Port Louis

The Frederik Hendrik Museum is located on the south-east coast of Mauritius. It is situated at the Vieux Grand Port Historic Site, the cradle of Mauritian History. This is the site of the first human settlement in Mauritius.
 ​


The National History Museum is situated at Mahebourg, in a fine park extending to about 12 acres, on the bank of River La Chaux. It is housed in Chateau Gheude (also known as Maison Robillard), an old French colonial country house built around 1772 and presently listed as a national heritage.
